Diego Alvarez Hospice and Funeral Costs
Donation protected
This fund is to support my little brother Diego who is dying of cancer (hospice and funeral costs).
Diego is the youngest of 3 boys. Our mom died of cancer 5 years ago in July when he was only 11 years old. Since then, Diego has flourished into a kind, intelligent, hilarious, and compassionate 16 year old. He was never brought down by some of the unfair aspects of his life.
Unfortunately, Diego is now dying of stage VI pancreatic cancer (Lynch Syndrome - a genetic cancer). He had been diagnosed back in January and had undergone surgery that we believed removed all of his cancer. He started on chemo that was supposed to be precautionary. However, as is sometimes the case, it turns out he actually still has cancer in his liver, all throughout his abdomen, and even in the fluid around his diaphragm and lungs (ascites). The chemo had also not worked. Then, things changed drastically in a matter of days. Complications with the cancer have left him with immense pain and with rapidly declining health.
Doctors sat down next to him on Sunday to tell him they cannot cure him. They explained that this cancer will shorten his life and that they were sorry he was given this hand. They told him he could try immunotherapy to possibly reduce the size of the tumor and extend his life, which would be considered experimental for kids his age. However, this would only afford him a couple months to years in the most ideal situation (2.3 5-year survival rate).
In the days since then, he has gotten even more sick. And, at this point, immunotherapy may actually shorten his life.
We want to be able to bring him home so that he can spend his last days with his family and pup. This fund would allow for us to ensure that he can have the medicine he needs to be able to end his life at home. This would also support funeral costs.
Anything you could give would be great, and we are forever in your debt. Thank you and God bless you all.
