Madi's Spinal Fusion Surgery
Donation protected
Our daughter Madi, 13, needs back surgery: spinal fusion with rods placed. After years of preventative measures, custom-made body braces and doctor visits to Gillette Children’s Hospital, her battle with her spine took a turn for the worse and now is at the point where she needs to have rods installed in her back. If left untreated, the curvature will cause Madi a lot of pain and discomfort as she gets older.
Madi has a condition known as scoliosis, which is a curvature of the spine. In Madi’s case, she has 3 curves (shown in picture). Spinal Fusion Surgery is a procedure that fuses the vertebrae (with screws and rods on each side of her spine) - into a solid bone. This will straighten her spine and prevent her curve from getting worse. She is scheduled to have the surgery in the beginning of April. The surgery itself will be 6-8 hours with a minimum 6-month recovery time.
For those of you that don't know Madi, she loves to play hockey. She aspires to be the best goalie for her team as she can. She chose to have this surgery done in April, because she hopes she would be able to be there for her team by the time next season comes around. As of right now, she is in high spirits, but she has a rough road ahead.
All funds will go to support Madi with her surgery and recovery. Any remaining funds will be donated to Gillette Children's Hospital. Thank you in advance for helping us with Madi’s surgery.
