Our Cancer and Surrogacy Fund
Donation protected
Hi Everyone!
Felicity here. In 2015, David and I were just like any other happily married couple, and decided it was time to start our family. We were so excited! Life was pretty wonderful!
However in July that year I was diagnosed with bowel cancer. It was a real shock! Whereas most people diagnosed with bowel cancer are in their 70's, I was just 33 years old. I lead an incredibly healthy lifestyle, and have no family history of cancer.
I was rushed into surgery to remove a golf ball sized tumour in my colon, and then scheduled to commence Chemotherapy as soon as I had recovered from surgery.
These treatments are why I am still here today, one year later, but chemotherapy comes at a high price. I am no longer able to carry a child.
Our dreams are still alive too though, as we were able to preserve four embryos before chemo began. This means if we can find an amazing person to be our surrogate we might still be able to have our family.
Having cancer has hit us hard financially - we have both experienced a big drop in earnings while living costs have risen.
We are so grateful that our hope is still alive, but we need to be realistic too. Surrogacy is an expensive and complicated process. As 'Intended Parents' we will pay all expenses incurred by the Surrogate.
Here are some of the costs associated with surrogacy:
-Fertility treatments
-Legal fees
-Phycology sessions
-Travel costs
We may also use the money donated here towards other costs we incur as a result of my diagnosis, such as scans, consults with specialists and prescriptions.
In the last year David and I have been overwhelmed by the love and support the we have received from friends, family and other well-wishers. Just knowing you care can brighten our spirits in even our darkest moments during this difficult time. We don't expect anything from anyone, but are regularly touched by people who want to help, which is beautiful. So if you would like to contribute in a financial way, we hope this site will be helpful to you. We really appreciate every cent or penny! Who knows, perhaps one day there will be a little person around who will grow up knowing that many people joined in to get them here!
All my love to you all,
Felicity
