In Loving memory of Tirhas Berhane Tesfatsion
It is with our saddest grievances to announce our dear daughter, mother and sister Tirhas, has gained her angel wings. On July 12, 2021 Tirhas was pulled over and arrested by Lynnwood Police. 36 hours later, she was dead. Video surveillance shows Tirhas clearly exhibiting signs of distress and asking for help, repeatedly. Police policy requires safety checks at least once every 60 minutes. The 5 officers on duty ignored Tirhas for nearly 3 hours. Tirhas was found unresponsive on the bathroom floor. Her death has been ruled a suicide.
WE DEMAND:
- The state Governor, Jay Inslee, request an independent investigation.
- The on-duty police officers be held fully accountable for the willful of neglect that led to Tirhas Tesfatsion’s death.
- On September 13, 2021, the Lynnwood city council vote no on the $69 million proposal to build a new jail.
Tirhas was the most caring, loving and joyful person to be around. She always had a smile on her face and transferred that to others. Tirhas was raised by her loving parents Berhane Tesfatsion and Hideat Yiman and left behind two sons Jonathan Yohannes and Eliyas Blanchfield.
Tirhas loved so many and was loved by so many. We ask the community to come together and help us give Tirhas the memorial that she deserves, in honor of her memory. This is a tragic loss for our family and prayers are greatly appreciated.
