Matt's Medical Fund

Meet Matthew Fonseca. Matt has been employed with Sweet Magnolia's for 4 years and our General Manager for the last 2 1/2. Matt been married to his wife Marian for almost 46 years. They have 5 children and 2 grandchildren. Originally from NYC, Matt relocated to South Carolina to care for his aging mother. In his free time (if that ever happens) he enjoys spending time with his family and playing guitar. Fun fact, he was even in a band in the 80's (and we have the pictures to prove it) Prior to his employment with us, he was the food and beverage manager at the North Carolina Zoo.

Right now, we need our community's help. About 2 months ago, Matt was diagnosed with bladder cancer. His prognosis was good, and a surgery date was scheduled. The week before surgery, Matt had a total of 3 strokes and was hospitalized for 4 days. Instead of addressing the bladder, his medical care was focused on the cause of his stroke, which was a 90% right side blockage and 50% left side blockage in his carotid artery. Surgery was done to scrape the right side, which has left him with some lingering problems making it difficult for him to return to work. Being a small buiness, the amount of PTO that we are able to offer is quickly running out. Matt is the only financial provider for his household so we have decided to try and help relieve some of his finacial burden. He still has a long road to recovery, and the cancer hasn't even been addressed yet.
