Hello, everyone --
First and foremost thank you for taking the time to read about my campaign. My name is Melissa Allen and I have served the public for the last 26 years thru EMS and 20 years as a career firefighter in Connecticut. I was deployed to the south during Hurricane Katrina . I met countless people who lost everything . I also learned quickly that the local churches in the communities were the ones getting it done for those very people. The beautiful state of Louisiana has been stricken again . I want to raise funds and awareness of the plight facing residence in the areas affected by the flooding that recently occurred in Louisiana in mid August.
This historic flooding ( it's referred to as the 1000 year flood) has impacted every aspect of these folks' lives. The devistation is so wide spread , no one yet knows what it is going to take to rebuild in this region. The affected area is ten times larger than Hurricane Katrina, and most of us still remember the images of the damage done during that storm.
With that said , it all starts with one small step -- people helping people . I am traveling to this region in 3 weeks. I will have as many supplies as my motorhome will hold . I have asked for volunteers to come with me but I am also asking for funds. The money raised from this page will assist the shelters in providing to those in need. The local organizations will know what the most pressing need is whether it's food, bedding , pet supplies , diapers and the list goes on.
I am anxious to get this relief campaign underway . The next few weeks will be filled with planning , collecting donated items , organizing and packing in preparation to get these RV wheels on the road .
