On behalf of Kristina and Mike Sevel, we are raising money to help with the cost of hospitals stays and medical treatments for their beautiful daughter, Grace. Grace was recently diagnosed with cystinosis, a rare, metabolic disorder caused by genetic abnormalities that result in the accumulation of the amino acid cystine in various organs and tissues such as the kidneys, muscles, and eyes. With cystinosis, cystine crystallizes in the cells, destroying them and causing multiple health complications.
After an 19-day hospital stay at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital, Grace’s team of doctors was able to successfully diagnose her health issues, and they have started her on a treatment plan that should allow her to lead a happy and healthy life. Kristina, Mike, and Grace are looking forward to being home and adjusting to their new normal. While there will be setbacks during this initial treatment phase, especially in determining the proper medications and dosage, there is much hope for a bright future.
As you can imagine, the financial burden on Kristina and Mike is profound, even with medical insurance, and there is a long road ahead for Grace.
