Rt4Barn - Preserving Americana
Donation protected
Calvert County’s iconic “Flag Barn” is on the move and your help is needed to preserve this enduring piece of Americana.
Located along MD Route 4 in Owings, the barn is a landmark to travelers. However, its current site is being developed and a unique arrangement was brokered to save the barn and relocate it.
The barn is thought to be more than 150 years old. In 1991, local artist Heather Smith painted an American flag on the barn as a tribute to troops. The artwork was later refreshed by American legion personnel from North Beach.
Veteran and county businessman Terry Quinn is leading efforts to move the barn across Route 4 to a new site donated by the Norfolk family. Once the move is complete, the barn and the property will be donated to Calvert County Government for maintenance and upkeep.
Acting in tribute to veterans and on behalf of Calvert County citizens, Quinn is raising funds for the barn move and an official donation/dedication ceremony. The goal is to raise $64,000.
Contributions, though not tax deductible, are greatly appreciated. Be a part of this exciting project and help save an important part of Calvert County culture. Please visit www.rt4barn.com to lend your support.
