Katie's exchange family in Ecuador

During the Fall of 2015 I spent 4 months in the most beautiful country in the world, studying animal biology with Pomona's college abroad program. My wonderful host mama, Mara, intruduced me to her home region on the coast, Manabi'.  As you know, this region was devastated by the 7.8 earthquake. The death count is above 600 and rising, while many remain missing. There are over 12000 injured and over 26000 left in temporary shelters or on the street. Mara and Marco Quimbiamba Beunaventura, my dear parents in Ecuador, are compiling basic supplies-food, water and first aid- to deliver to their affected family and community in this region. 

Please consider donating to help this family buy and deliver emergency supplies. Any amount will help someone who needs it. All funds will be directed to my host family in Ecuador who are working on the ground to help deliver emergency support to San Vicente, Canoa and Jama. 

GoFundMe has asked us to specify that due to this site's financial mode not being accessible directly to Mara, I will be first withdrawing these donated funds into my bank account and sending these funds via bank transfer or Western Union to Mara in Ecuador. My mom Lise will assist as necessary to get this transfer accomplished.

Durante el otoño de 2015, mi querida mamá ecuatoriana me presentó a su linda región en la costa, Manabí. Como muchos de ustedes ya saben, está región recientemente fue devastado por un terremoto de magnitud 7.8. Hasta el momento, el número de víctimas es más que 600 y en aumento, mientras mucha gente permanece desaparecida, hay más que 12000 heridos y más que 26000 dejó sin refugio. Mara y Marco Quimbiamba Buenaventura, mis parientes queridos en el Ecuador, están recopilando provisiones básicas- comida, agua y primeros auxilios- para entregar a sus hermanos y hermanas afectados en la costa. Me enviaron este mensaje para compartir con cualquier persona que nos puede oir. Por favor considere hacer una donación, cualquier cantidad le ayudará a una persona que lo necesita. Todos los fondos serán dirigidos a mi familia anfitriona en Ecuador, quien está trabajando allá para ayudar con la distribución de ayuda emergencia a las áreas afectadas de San Vicente, Canoa y Jama.
