To say my angel Mother has had a rough year wouldn't really begin to describe the reality of it all. Those of you who have been following on Facebook since February know much of it. If meeting Anita here is new, long story short, she went in for surgery to remove squamous cells from her vulva on January 18th, 2016. Her Gynecological Oncologist performed a Radical Vulvectomy, pathology report that followed showed clean margins. A few days later, she developed a massive infection (cellulitis) and had to go back through the ER from her follow-up appointment. Two surgeries later (to remove the infection) her kidneys failed. She developed blood clots in her legs and lungs, was put on blood thinners, and developed a retroperitoneal bleed. Unbeknownst to the hospital staff, she was discharged to a rehab facility, and ended up going back the same day in sepsis and renal failure. Less than 24-hours later, she was in the ICU and bled out for 5 days. She received double-digits of blood transfusions, 9 units of plasma, and eventually developed a 14cm hematoma that ended up killing a nerve in her left leg. We're thankful she's alive after all that, but currently has minimal use of her leg, therefore can't drive and has fallen twice since since June. We've had her home for less than 2 months and just found out her once Stage 1 cancer has advanced to the nearest lymph node to the infection site. To complicate things further, my Dad lost his job yesterday. We saw a Radiology Oncologist today and are in the process for looking for a second opinion and other options. It looks likely we will need to travel out of state for her treatment and need monetary help to get her (and a companion) there.
If you've ever had the chance to meet my Mom, you know that she is an incredible human that puts the needs of others before her, that she loves hard and is incredibly funny. Those she worked with nicknamed her "Betty" (after Betty White) - because she's that awesome. Thank you so much for reading, giving what you can and showing her that there are so many people out there that care!
With love,
Jamie
