Building a Future

Hello my name is Amanda and I'm a social worker in Madison County Kentucky. This page is not for me however but for 2 amazing ladies that I work with who desperately need your help! These two ladies are both disabled from birth with diagnoses of cerebral palsy, seizure disorder, etc. which has left them in need of extensive care. Their biological families were unable to provide the care they needed but these two ladies were lucky enough to find themselves in the home of an amazing foster parent who has cared for them, loved them and raised them as her own for the past 30 years! How blessed they have been!
Throughout the years a bond has been developed not just between these ladies and their foster mother but with the extended family as well. They grew up with their foster mother's grandchildren and these same grandchildren are now the ones who are helping to provide care for them! It has been so amazing that this family has been able to create such a circle of support around these ladies that they have never known anything but love and support!
It is with a heavy heart that I now discuss why we need your help. Their foster mother has become ill, recently receiving a diagnosis of terminal cancer. While she is fighting with every breath to stay with her family she is becoming weaker everyday and is unable to care for these ladies any longer. Her grand-daughter who has been with these ladies since they were all children is ready and willing to step in and continue caring for them in her home. Unfortunately the state has regulations in regards to the homes that these ladies live in and the new caregivers home does not qualify. She will need 2 bedrooms, one for each lady, as well as a bathroom built onto her current home. This is going to be quite expensive and the family does not have the funds to complete the build.
We are asking for donations to complete the renoations so that these ladies can remain with the family they have always known. The sad truth is that if something can not be worked out soon and the addition can not be completed these ladies will be placed in another adult foster home, away from their family and the life they have always known. These ladies, one in particular, were never expected to live to be an adult and it's a miracle coupled with the amazing care they have received over the years that has kept them with us, happy and healthy. I fear that if they are removed from their family that they will grieve so deeply that they will regress emotionally and physically. Their best possible future is to remain with their current family but that can't happen without your help!
We are greatly appreciative of any donations and/or support. Along with monetary donations we are looking for volunteers to help with the building process, donations of supplies and of course prayers and good thoughts! Thank you from all us!
