Dekalb Seizure

Donation protected
A little over a month ago in Dekalb County, GA,  there was a seizure of over 300 birds from a Doctors House. This person had birds ranging from very small Finches to the larger parrot varieties. The picture you see are the empty cages after we transferred the birds to newer and better, clean cages. At this time we are not sharing actual pictures of the birds involved.

This plea is to help the receiving rescues build those aviaries and provide homes to these beautiful birds so as not to deplete their already stretched funds. At this time the birds will be sent to Ziggy's Haven Bird Sanctuary in Florida, Parrot Cove Exotic Bird Preserve, Best Friends Animal Society and Gilcrease Nature Sanctuary. Each aviary costs approximately $2500.
There will also be transportation costs involved in order to get the birds from their current location to these various rescues.

I am Lynli B. Vincion, a parrot lover, advocate and volunteer.   I have agreed to help with fundraising and donations. I live in Nashville, TN. I discovered parrots 8 years ago and have jumped in with gusto and passion. We are their voice, we must speak for them and take care of them. I am by no means an expert on parrots but I have learned much in these few years.

I had the ability to join Wendy Demeester Waas, who was asked to oversee the entire process, in
Atlanta on the 3rd day after the seizure to help with these beautiful birds. It was an experience I will never forget. They had been living in pure filth, some with deceased birds in the cages with them. The  majority of the cage trays were so caked with feces, feathers and such they were like cement. We were not even able to pull the trays out. There were bugs living in the trays as well. Very few of them had toys. Many of them did not have food or water bowls in their cages. It was the saddest thing I have ever witnessed.

I stayed for that first week. It was so amazing to see the changes in them as we started taking care of them. They were so scared and afraid at first. Then in the mornings when they heard us come in, they would start screaming. By the time, I left some of them were actually beginning to come around and realize we were not going to hurt them. We were there to help them.

Wendy was asked to oversee their care while they are awaiting trial and or until the owner relinquishes ownership. Once that occurs Wendy has to find places for all 300 of these birds. She has been able to place about 150 of them so far, obviously contingent on the outcome of the court case. However, the receiving rescues will need funding to build new aviaries for the birds.

Parrot Cove Exotic Bird Preserve in Myakka City, Florida, run by Greg and Cindy Poulain will be providing sanctuary for the Lorikeets, approximately 45 of them. Ziggys Haven, located in Hernando, Florida will be providing sanctuary for approximately 30 of the Amazons. The remainder of the Amazons will be available for adoption from Ziggys Haven. Best Friends in Utah has agreed to provide sanctuary to some of the smaller birds that will need either sanctuary or adoption. Even after these birds are placed we will still need to place almost 200 more.

The he rescues have already began construction on these aviaries but we must get funds to them as soon as possible. Funds will be divided between the 4 receiving rescues based on the cost of the aviary needed based in the size of the birds they are taking. Obviously an aviary for a flock of Amazons has to be larger than one for conures, therefore will cost more.

I am ever so grateful to have been just a small part of this rescue. Please join me in helping these rescues build wonderful aviaries for these beautiful birds. Even a few dollars will help. It all adds up. And thank you so much for donating, sharing and being a part of this incredible journey.

Please remember this plea is to help the receiving rescues build aviaries and provide homes to these beautiful birds so as not to deplete their already stretched funds.
