Dream Trip For Wes aka Superman
Donation protected
Two days after my father's 58th birthday, I rushed him to the hospital. That night he was diagnosed with colon cancer and dangerously low blood levels. His condition was so severe that the nurses nicknamed him "Superman," because even with his blood levels at 3.7 not only was he walking around he was the day time care giver for my two rambunctious small children. He survived a complete colectomy and a transfusion of 6 pints of blood. Unfortunately, his cancer journey is not over. He still has part of the tumor left that will be treated with chemotherapy through a port nearly everyday. He will actually have a pump that goes home with him to administer the medication. This will be a daunting and rough road, but he is Superman.Wes is the strongest man I know. He sacrificed his health to care for his two grand children that he loves deeply. The only way that I know how to repay him for all that he has done, is to some how and some way travel with him. His love of travel and the outdoors have been placed on the back burner throughout his life to care for his family. I ultimately would have loved to take him on a trip to Scotland or Alaska. These are his top two destinations that he expressed to me in our many father-daughter life discussions. Realistically, those destinations are not in our reach as his health will not allow for that long of travel. (If all things go well, he can travel there when he is cancer free.)An equally great trip of a lifetime would be to travel cross country in an RV with his family. He and my mother has daydreamed about such a trip for years and years. We would love to see his face light up as we travel out west. This trip has been the only thing I can think of since his diagnosis. His time on this earth has been so short, and reality is that the Stage IV colon cancer survival rate is only 11%. His older sister, Marla, passed away just four years this past April from the same diagnosis. We are optimistically realistic about his condition, so we want to make time now for memories and making life wonderful in spite of reality. Besides holding his hand, smiling, and saying I love you, I know of no better way to show my love to my father. No better way to say thank you for the sacrifices he and my mother made for our family. Truth is we need the help of our friends and family (or strangers even) to make this type of trip a reality. This trip and this gofundme are surprises to my father. He is too proud to ask others to help him experience something so amazing for himself. He has no idea that I would like to take him on a trip cross country, but with your help he will know that we (the people that love him) have turned a dream into a reality. Thank you for your love and support!!*In the event that his condition limits his ability to travel, funds will be applied to medical bills and care expenses*
