Black Women Writers in Europe Retreat 2024
Donation protected
Hello,
We are Black Women Writers in Europe (BWWE). What started as an idea between Joy Notoma and Jeannetta Craigwell-Graham, two Black women fiction writers who live in France and Denmark in 2021, has now become a registered non-profit association and an online platform with craft workshops, writing accountability sessions and resources.
The core of BWWE remains hosting the premiere retreat and workshop for fellow Black women writers who live in Europe and the UK. Last year, over four days in southern France, eight Black women writers communed, laughed, cried, were inspired/inspired, wrote, walked and spoke their truth. This gathering would not have been possible without the generous support of donations from friends/families/supporters. We raised a total of €4028 which, along with contributions from participants, covered the full costs of the weekend. Building on the success of our retreat in 2023, we will be hosting our second retreat in September 2024 in France.
We again to hope to offer a long weekend where writers can focus on their craft, have their pieces workshopped, and enjoy time together, building community, at an affordable cost.
The "affordable cost" part is where we need your help!
Your donations help to cover the expense of lodging, transportation, and food. Now that we have registered as a non-profit, we are also seeking grants and sponsorships to make sure that we can keep doing this for years to come.
Writing takes immense courage. No one should do it alone. Living abroad sometimes means you have little to no community. While some luxury writing retreats for Black women exist, there are no workshop/retreats specifically for Black women writers who live in Europe. Your donations will help us change that!
Thank you in advance!
Joy and Jeannetta
