Makayla's Brain Surgery Recovery Fund

Donation protected
Makayla was admitted to Brenner's Children's Hospital on Friday, April 12th, for her 3rd brain surgery, just shy of 1 month after her 3rd brain surgery the shunt revision failed again. Makayla had emergency brain surgery Monday night, May 13th, after continuous vomiting for 2 days and MRI scans showing enlarged ventricles. Makayla was released from the hospital on Tuesday, May 14th, later that evening she began vomiting again. Makayla was then re-admitted into the hospital for the 3rd time in less than 1 month, she is still in the hospital. She has endured so much at such a young age, no child should have to experience such a challenge. To make the situation even more stressful, Insurance has been refusing to pay medical bills, stating a prior authorization was not obtained. Makayla, twin "B", is a surviving micro-preemie who was born with a class IV (worst possible) brain hemmorage at 25 weeks gestation. Makayla beat the odds and spent close to 6 months in NICU and has faced many surgeries and challenges over the years. She is now 7.5 years old with Cerebal Palsy and Hydrocephalus and suffering from Ventriculoperitoneal Shunt malfunction. Makayla is currently suffering from daily headaches, vomiting, loss of appetite and sometimes lethargic. This is a result of intermittent shunt failure causing Ventriculomegaly and increased pressure on the brain which causes temporary function of the shunt.
