Tim’s Recovery
Donation protected
When Tim did not show up for work on the morning of July 25th, those who know him well knew there was definitely something amiss. And there certainly was. He was subsequently found in the floor of his home, unable to move. He had suffered an ischemic stroke the evening before. After being transported to a local hospital, he was then airlifted to Mission in Asheville and quickly underwent carotid angioplasty and stenting, which helped regain blood flow to his brain. Tim spent 4 days in the ICU, and two weeks total in Mission Hospital. He was then transferred to The Laurels At Greentree, where he stayed for an additional six weeks to begin speech, occupational and physical therapies.
In the beginning he was unable to move his entire right side or speak intelligibly. We are grateful to share that he is now walking on his own (slowly)! He is beginning to articulate his words and his memory has improved tremendously. His right hand and arm suffered further injury in two separate falls, but are also beginning to improve.
He is now back at home and will begin in-home occupational, physical and speech therapies soon. Although, understandably, he can get very frustrated, he is determined to recover!
Only one week before the stroke, Tim had returned to Lowe’s after more than two years of working elsewhere. Being a new employee, he was not yet eligible for benefits, so he had no insurance to help with the medical side of things. Even more worrisome is that since he is unable to work, he has lost his only source of income. As you could imagine, the amount of medical bills alone are staggering and everyday expenses dont stop or lessen with an unexpected medical event.
Any small amount is welcomed and greatly appreciated. All funds will go directly into an account in Tim’s name to cover his immediate needs and expenses.
Preface:
Tim had not been feeling well for several weeks and the day before was dizzy and had right arm pain and weakness. However, he did not seek medical attention. Stroke.org states stroke is the 5th leading cause of death and one of the major causes of disability in the US. If you or someone around you show any of the common symptoms of stroke, please take action, do not wait.
