My name is Rosemary Mundy and the name of my business is It's Sew Muskoka. I have been sewing here in Huntsville for over 20 years. I do alterations for Kathy Sheridan of Reflections of Muskoka and have been for over 10 years and although I started with Fabricare 5 years ago I continue to sew for Reflections of Muskoka. I am a self employed sewing contracter for Fabricare whose life was about to change drastically. Let me tell you what happened. I was awaken at about 1:10 am Sunday morning to a siren outside my window and when I looked out I asked the officer what was going on, I could see him looking around to see where the voice was coming from, and I yelled, up here! He shone his flashlight in my face and said," mamm, get out if your apartment now. Well I knew there had to be a real fire burning so I quickly got dressed and not being able to find my pet carrier, quickly removed my pillow from its case and put my cat inside it. By now the firemen, 3 of them, were banging at my door telling me to hurry up. I grabbed my purse and the cat in the case and I left. I got into my car and drove around to the back of Fabricares parking lot where I saw smoke billowing from the roof directly above my home. Hours later I was relieved to find out that some camp laundry had started the fire and the smoke I saw on the roof was smoke coming from the dryers below. I was relieved because I had 2 wedding dresses and 3 bridesmaids dresses I was altering for September weddings and I thought oh a little smokey, we will send them away to be cleaned. They will fine! After about an hours rest at my daughter Tanyas I went down to have a better look. I saw all the camp laundry outside on the pavement wet and charred, and I still thought my dresses in my shop were going to be OK. I looked closer at the pile and noticed burned clothes racks and plastic bins and bolts of fabric. Oh my that's from my room I said out loud! It wasn't until much later that morning when a company came to access the damage and take photographs, that I found out how bad the fire was for me. I asked to see the photos of my room and my heart sank. Oh my god, everything was gone! Everything! Even looking at the pictures nothing mattered to me what I had lost except for those dresses. I asked again about the 2 wedding dresses that were hanging on my change room rod, and he said" if there were wedding dresses, they are no longer there." What will I tell these brides? What will I say to them? Well, all the clothes that I had in my room will be covered by Fabricares insurance, as for all my machines, my fabrics, my notions such as threads, needles, zippers ect. not covered. I had no insurance! I have lost everythingeverything! Everything I have worked so hard for all these years. Well I am a survivor! I have been through alot worse than this and I am still standing! A hard worker! Always have been always will be! But I am here on this "gofundme" site because I have no money no savings, I live from pay check to pay check like I am sure most people do today. Sewing is not only my lively hood, its my passion. My life! I have been sitting around for 2 days now with nothing to do. All day Monday I kept Hazel the security guard company and unlocked doors for insurance people at Fabricare! All I am asking for is a little help to be able to go and buy a couple of used industrial sewing machines off kijji, threads, needles, zippers and what ever else I may need to get me started once again. I lost 4 industrial machines, 2 sergers and a Janome home machine that I used for button holes and patching in the fire! I lost so much in that room it hurts everytime I remember something else that I had left in there. After all, it was my second home and many personal items were in there as well.
I will be able to set up shop( it will be small but its a beginning) on the laundry side of the business until my room is rebuilt. I know of people that have lost everything due to a fire, I am so thankful I still have my home and my kitty! Thank you for reading my very long story. Those of you who know me, know I can sometimes ramble on.
Thank you to my 5 children for being here with me while I go through this, and thank you to all of you that have dropped by to wish me well and to offer me a helping hand, thanks to all of you!
