On Tuesday, September 19, 2023, Colby had a severe, single car accident near Norfork, Arkansas. Due to his many life threatening injuries he was airlifted to Cox Health Medical Center in Springfield, Missouri. Both of his arms and both legs are broken, his neck is fractured, his pelvis is shattered, he has a lacerated liver, doctors have already had to remove his spleen and pancreas, he has lost one kidney and his other kidney is shutting down, so the doctors have put a port in so they can begin dialysis treatments, he has had multiple surgeries daily, the doctors have already given him over 100 units of blood due to the excessive amount of internal bleeding, at this time doctors have still not been able to sew up his abdomen because they don’t want to do that until they are confident that they have the internal bleeding stopped. They have had him in a medically induced coma since soon after his arrival at the Neurotrama Unit in Springfield, MO.
Colby will be in the hospital for months to come. His medical bills are mounting daily. His parent’s have been and will continue to be at the hospital with Colby throughout his entire fight for recovery. Springfield, MO is a 3 hour trip from their home in Calico Rock, AR. The doctors have told the family that Colby is not “out of the woods yet” and survival is still not certain, but they are optimistic. Doctors have stated that due to his young age and the fact that he was in good physical condition when this tragedy occurred that that will increase his chances. He is putting up a heroic fight and the entire staff at the hospital have been nothing short of amazing!! They have stated that he has improved since his arrival at the hospital, but he still has a long road ahead.
