Baton Rouge - Matthews Under Water

I am Lee Matthews from Athens Georgia and I am raising money for my brothers family that recently lost everything in the Baton Rouge flood. They need money for clothes, furniture and to rebuild the inside of their home.  Since their home was not in a flood  zone, they did not have flood insurance. 

Steve and Dawn Matthews are two working parents with children ages 12 and 16. After a couple of days of heavy rain last week, they we're concerned about possible flooding. They got in their car, drove around, talked with neighbors who had lived there for years and determined  they were ok.

Early Saturday afternoon Steve looked outside and saw water coming through the woods across the street.   An hour later, there was two feet of water in their home. Their neighbor suggested they pack an overnight bag and go stay with his parents. They never fathomed that by Saturday evening their one story home would be completely underwater.  

The water rose so quickly that no one had time to do anything. They could not return to their home - just had to wait until the water dropped to see what damage was done. Two days later they returned to their home and it was as bad as they feared. Virtually everything was gone or needed to be replaced. Clothes, furniture, cabinets, carpet, walls, everything.  All they could do was start dragging everything out so they they could begin the process of cleaning up and ripping out the carpet and walls. 

The matthews family desperately needs help to start over. They Are the greatest family and at this point are just happy they are safe and have each other. But they need so much more. I promise you they will use every dollar of your donation to start re building their lives. With no insurance, and a mortgage on their destroyed home, they need financial help from all of us.
