Joe Batus was one of a kind, no one can refute that, but he was also caring, genuine, selfless and above all else loyal to his family and friends. He was taken far too soon with so much life and joy still to share with the world. Joe was my favorite person, my best friend (of which he had many) and I loved him dearly.
If you ask anyone that had the pleasure of knowing him the first thing each person would recall about him was his tremendous and unique sense of humor. I can't help but smile and chuckle even as I write this page just thinking about some of my favorite Joe Batus moments. Try it. Think of your own special Joe Batus experiences and I bet you crack a smile or even burst out laughing. That was his gift. He made life so much brighter for everyone he touched.
Another one of Joe's greatest characteristics was his strength. Joe handled the toughest and most challenging situations seemingly with ease, when clearly things weren't easy. Unfortunately, a little over a month ago Joe was faced with a one final challenge where his strength would not be enough to overcome. Make no mistake, Joe fought harder and stronger than anyone else could have in his situation. Joe managed to fight for his life for 33 days in the ICU on dialysis, life support and having over 20 surgeries. He endured more medically, physically and mentally than anyone I have ever known. Joe's brother Rob said to me the night before he passed, that Joe was the strongest person that he's ever known, he was a beast, and that was the only reason Joe managed to hang on as long as he did.
Joe was the best friend anyone could have, but I know his greatest love was for his family. He always made sure to be the best son, brother and uncle he could possibly be and he gave all of himself everyday to his family. That is why it is so important for us to help the Batus family right now in their greatest time of need. The funds donated will be used in taking care of Joe's final arrangements and services. There is no doubt in my mind that this would be Joe's ultimate wish. Please help this strong and courageous family by dontating right now. No amount is too small and every donation is greatly appreciated.
