Help Manuel get a Transplant

Donation protected
Hello Dear friends,

I have had the pleasure of knowing Manuel Engerisser Mayer for over 7 years as an uncle figure to my three children, as his mother is my daycare provider while I'm off at work.

About 5 years ago, Manuel, 21 at the time, was working hard in Austin as a top sales associate at the Buckle.  His future was full of opportunity as they wanted him to run his own store in Las Vegas.  One usual day, he was at home when he suddenly had a stroke in his apartment bathroom.  Luckily one of his dear friends happened to come home when she helped save his life by calling 9-1-1.  He was then air flighted to the hospital when it was discovered that he had leukemia. Earth shattering moment.

Manuel had damage to his brain and suffered paralysis to his left arm.  Through physical thearpy, he was able to gain the use of his left leg again, but still cannot use his left arm.  He had multiple surgeries, including brain surgery where part of his skull had to be removed until the brain swelling receded.  He went through Chemothearpy and fought the cancer a hard two years and was successful with remission.

He has been cancer free for 15 months.  He has made the Dean list at Temple College that he is attending and was slated to graduate this coming May.  He also enrolled in Realtor's school for this Summer, when the unthinkable happened.

He started complaining of severe pain his hip to where he could barely walk.  His chest started hurting which prompted an Emergency Room visit.  There were no explinations given for the two occuring other than take Advil to help with the pain.

His mother was worried and Manuel feared the worse that maybe his cancer was back.  Once his doctor returned from vacation, he immediately wanted to see Manuel.  His fear was confirmed; The cancer was back and with a vengence.

His doctor immediately started him on a stronger version of chemotherapy and sent him to the Baylor Scott and White Hospital in Dallas, Texas to discuss bone marrow donation and transplant procedures.  The search was on to find a match and plans were being put into place about the transplant schedule.

Miraculously, Manuel's half brother proved to be a positive match yesterday, so now his doctor team is trying to speed up the transplant process and get him in ASAP.

The problem: how to fund this procedure.

Manuel is currently trying to be approved for a second health insurance to help pay for his 80,000 procedure.  What was told to us is that it is $80/day for him to stay in their facility to recieve the transplant.  His brother has to stay up there for a week which translates to $2,240 for him alone.  Then Manuel has to stay there two months at minimum which at $80/day is $4,480. So far if we round that up that is $6,720.  That is for the stay alone and not the treatment.

The treatment is around $340,000! (insert shocked face)  Because he is fully disabled, he is not allowed to work, so he has Medicaid as his primary insurance.  They will cover 80% of the procedure which amounts to $272,000.  This leaves him and his family to cover $68000!  While we pray to either be approved for the 2nd insurance or win the lottery, the reality is that we need to have a plan to pay for his treatment.

Manuel, Adrian, and Sandra are family to me.  Though I know we are not rich, any little bit counts.

Even though he did not want me to create this gofund me page, his family needs it. Please help this great person get better and they would be forever gratful for any help.
