MusicWorks! is a free, daily after-school string orchestra program for K-5 students at The Heights Center in Harlem Heights, one of Lee County’s most underserved communities. Inspired by El Sistema, the Venezuelan music program that promotes human opportunity and development for their most vulnerable children, MusicWorks! uses music as an instrument for social transformation, empowering children to acquire values and achieve their full potential, positively affecting their society through the study and performance of music.Students receive group lessons, large ensemble instruction, music theory and fundamentals classes, and interactive master classes with renowned artists and ensembles. MusicWorks! students have successfully performed at the Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall prior to select Gulf Coast Symphony concerts, and played for a sold out audience of 1800 people!Every student enrolled in MusicWorks! receives a full-tuition scholarship, covering the costs of instruction from professional Teaching Artists, all necessary musical supplies, and new instruments. 32 students were enrolled in MusicWorks! in year 1. For year 2, we have 45 students enrolled and a waiting list of 14!
