I was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana
on 7-9-73 to a wonderful supportive family. From the moment I was born I've been nurtured and inspired by the love of my Parents, Aunties, Uncles and Cousins - the Ricard's are very special. Now I live many miles away but I know my roots and my heart is always with them, especially now. My heart breaks when I think of the unimaginable loss they have suffered in the Baton Rouge floods that began last week, the worst since hurricane Katrina, and that 5 of my family members, my Auntie, Uncle, and cousins have had their homes flooded in 6 ft of water or more.
There was no flood insurance made available to them (just like in California where it's almost impossible to get earthquake insurance). The area they live in has never flooded before. This was unexpected and devastating but they are forever hopeful and optimistic people. I am so inspired when I speak with them. They focus on the blessing of being safe, actually having helped rescue each other and neighbors from the flood. They are now working together as a family to try to clean up and rebuild their lives. All going together to help clean out each other's home. Their furniture, cars, and family heirlooms destroyed, but our Ricard family bonds can't be "rained out" and is keeping us strong.
I wish I could be there to help but I did think of the blessing I would like to share with them - YOU. All the amazing friends and family I have, and the hope that we can pull together collectively, as they are, to help them rebuild after the flood. The $7973 goal I set is reflective of the day I was born and all they have invested into building our strong loving family. All donations will go to helping them rebuild their homes.
