On August 15, 2016 Michael Biadasz, (29 years old) awoke early in the morning to do a routine task. He was agitating the family beef farm's open manure pit prior to it being used as fertilizer in his fields. What happened that morning turned tragic. In moments he was overcome by fumes that were created from the byproducts of the decomposing of the animal wastes. He was found that morning by a employee/friend and his father. He was unable to be recessitiated. Soon after Mike's death 13 full grown beef cattle were also found deaddead. Three beef cattle suffered irreversible illness and were euthanized.

The coroner believes the Mike was overcome and poisoned by methane or sulfur dioxide, but specific toxicology is still pending. These are tasteless and
odorless gasses. Though poisoning by these gasses has occurred before, it is usually seen in an enclosed building with inadequate ventilation. This was a large outdoor, open pit. These outdoor holding pits are become more common in recent years do to environmental reasons. These outdoor pits are perceived to be safe from gas poisoning, but we have realized that is not the case.

“You rely on the fact that gases just kind of float away,” Newsline 9's Chief Meteorologist Justin Loew said. “Sometimes, if there's no wind or if there's fog, or if there's some sort of inversion that doesn't allow wind to blow around very much, you're going to end up with the air being stagnant.” So those byproducts became a toxic , invisible, currently undetectable plume.

Farming/agriculture is noted to be among the 10 most deadly occupations in the US. The family of Mike is creating the Memorial Fund to create awareness and improve farm/agriculture safety. We hope that no other person will die under these circumstances.
