Saving me from homelessness.

Hi. My name is Kurt. Since June of 2022, I have been living on savings. It started then because I had just lost my job, and then had a major surgery. Afterwards I had 4 months of recovery where I couldn't do anything at all. The apparatus attached to me to heal my surgical wounds pretty much required inactivity to do its job.

So come almost October, I was feeling weak, and thought I would take my time finding another job, but I just got weaker from there. I have an ostomy, and I have had that since 2016. So instead of bowel movements, I have a bag that collects my waste. My last surgery in 2022 repaired it by relocating it to my left side, but I also had my gall bladder removed then as well.

The result is that instead of emptying it 4 or 5 times a day, I'm emptying it a dozen times. I am also considerably weaker than I was, so now just getting up to go to the bathroom is a winding, strenuous activity.

So back to after I finished healing from surgery. I was originally planning on returning to working, but then as I progressed worse and worse, I thought maybe I could get medical disability. I remember a little over 2 years ago thinking I had a year to accomplish something, and then I'd have to think of selling this house. I was a bit off on my estimate because I now have about 6 months remaining.

I live in a community where if I keep the house, the HOA fee is $330 a month, and with utilities I end up with the cheapest "rent" I can ever hope to have. But if I sell my house, I will have to take whatever is given to me, and have nowhere to go. It'd be nice if I could have another year towards getting disability. I am 10 years too early to collect Social Security now.
