Cowgirls for Cajuns
Donation protected
We are just a couple of girls from Zachary, Louisiana who live in Texas now. We love our hometown, state and all of its incredible people and culture. We have been sitting around wringing our hands wondering what we could do to help the hundreds of thousands of people impacted by the recent flooding. In reality, we won't be able to scratch the surface of the need, but that's not going to stop us from trying.
We are raising money to buy supplies for people in the great state of Lousiana who are impacted. The needs are so great - homes, schools, nursing homes, etc. Many lost entirely, many will take weeks, months or years to repair. And there are so many people in shelters or staying with others that need assistance too.
We've been in touch with churches, friends and family in La. and have been told these are some of the most needed items:
For cleaning: Breathing masks, bleach, gloves, disinfectant wipes, sunscreen, bug spray. We've heard people are having huge success with a homemade recipe of detergent that includes Borax, Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda, Ivory Soap and vinegar.
For people's personal needs: toothbrushes, toothpaste, dental floss, butt paste, razors, deodorant, feminine hygiene products, diapers, vaseline and any other thing you'd use on a daily or regular basis.
Schools and nursing homes are in big need and we are trying to refine the list of those items, but they include: large print books, DVDs, small portable radios, phones, wall and bedside clocks, games, and all kinds of school supplies.
Those cleaning out homes are also in real need of sealable storage bins so they can empty what is left and then start rebuilding. They also need work gloves, mops, heavy duty trash bags, box cutters, phone chargers and extention cords. They also need paper and bubble wrap to repack things.
And if you've ever spent time in the heat and humidity of a summer in the south - you will understand the need for box fans.
Our first truck leaves this Wednesday so we are asking for immediate donations. Literally every dollar counts and we promise to be smart shoppers both in terms of bargain hunting and buying only things people need the most.
We are so appreciative of all of the items that have been dontated to us thus far, now your financial donations will help us really knock this out of the park. Just being able to help a few will mean so much and we will be forever grateful for your participation.
Please give if you can. And if you can't, please keep all of those in Louisiana in your thoughts and prayers. Also please wish us a safe journey and success in our distribution efforts.
