Steve's Flooding Relief Fund

Yesterday, August 29, my Dad's apartment was completely flooded due to high amounts of rain and a literal flash flood tearing through his and his neighbor's homes. He is older and does not get around all that well considering he just had both total knee replacements completed this summer. He had to somehow get himself upstairs in order to avoid disaster. Once the rain stopped, he was able to come back down, soaking wet and shaken, to go outside and see the disaster that had occurred. Luckily I was able to get off of work early due to family emergency to help him. This was all around about 2 in the afternoon. He called and was told that maintenance would not be able to come out until they care for the two other jobs in higher priority to him. So, we had to wait outside in the cold and rain for the rest of the day while the sewage, mud, and water soaked everything in his home. If my husband and I hadn't have been able to get off work, my 65 year old (pretty much disabled at the moment) Dad would have been stuck outside in the cold until maintenance finally showed up at 1030, only to tell us there was nothing they could do because the electricity/power was turned off. Needless to say, my dad is currently staying in a hotel with the bare necessities and is waiting to see how this all pans out. His apartment is unlivable and the way this whole situation has played out is shocking to say the least!

Due to the extensive damage to the house, the landlord has terminated my Dad's lease, and he is being forced to find a new place immediately. The landlord is also unwilling to help with costs of displacement while he is living in a hotel. The damage to the house included electrical, structural, water damage, and other hefty problems that will take quite some time to fix. We are starting to look for a new rental for him, and this will be costly due to the last-minute timing. He is also going to need to replace most everything he had in his house when he does find a new place. Almost all of his furniture and other household items were damaged to the point of no return. My dad is an awesome guy, and I know he appreciates any (and all) help/support he can get. Anything helps! Thanks for taking the time to show him you care. <3
