Prayers for Pierce
Pierce Rufat, now 1 yr old, was diagnosed with Dysplastic Kidneys while in the womb. He was born with minimal kidney function with no urine output, forcing his amazing mother (Val) and father (Izzy) to make a life saving decision to put sweet Pierce on Hemodialysis. After some time, they were able to put Pierce on a safer Peritoneal Dialysis which Val and Izzy could do from home. This was a game changer for Pierce, but it was not an easy course to get there.
Despite complications along the way, a huge milestone was getting the chance to take Pierce to Pittsburgh to meet his kidney transplant team last week. Izzy & Val were overjoyed with emotion that they were at this point. They had to leave their other son Izzy (Pierce’s awesome older brother) with family to be on their way to Pittsburgh.
Later in the day after lots of meetings with the team & many tests, Izzy and Val were told by the Ultrasound Tech that there were spots on Pierce’s liver that were concerning. The Nephrologist said that the spots were serious enough to get a biopsy done. The family received the call this morning with the results of the biopsy. The spots on Pierce’s liver are in fact cancer. This news is mind numbing. There are no words to describe the emotions just writing this, let alone what Izzy, Val & little Izzy are going through.
At this time, Pierce will have to undergo chemotherapy for 4 months. Where chemo will happen is up in the air right now. Pierce is such a warrior, an inspiration to many people including myself. His fight to survive is unparalleled. Izzy and Val are extremely humble & only ask for Prayers for Pierce, but the family & I are asking for your help. The costs for care & expenses are already adding up. Any amount you can contribute to help would mean the world to my family and me.
We will make sure to keep you all updated on Pierce’s journey. Thank you.
