Sigma Nu Memorial Fund

This past year we lost 4 of our beloved Brothers, Michael Conley, Jim Carter, Joel Williams and Brock Haley. Some had family that memorialized their deaths, others did not. One thing they all had in common with us was the bond we shared as friends, as Sigma Nu’s and of course as Mercerians. Our time at Mercer was indeed special to so many of us and we know to each of these Brothers and friends.
Since their passing many of you have asked what would be a fitting way to honor these Brothers. There were a number of good ideas and after meeting with the current leadership of ETA chapter, a great idea emerged. The chapter has, for years, wanted to have a Sigma Nu rock like so many chapters have in front of their houses across the country. The current Brothers wanted also to have a rock to match what other Mercer fraternities have like the lion and the cannon. We thought this was a great way to honor these Brothers, plus it would give the current Brothers something to be proud of. We would be adding something to the ETA chapter that all future Brothers could call their own.
We have met with the current Brothers and we have received approval from the University to locate this memorial rock on the lawn in front of the house. This rock will be engraved with the Sigma Nu Greek letters and on the back, we will place a memorial to Mike, Jim, Brock and Joel. It will be lit at night for everyone to see and should look great to all that pass by the house. ETA chapter has the lawn that all students, faculty and alumni see on their way to the University Center and the football stadium. There really could be no better spot on campus.
This account is being set up to purchase the Memorial Rock. The rock will be dedicated on Saturday, November 19th at the Mercer vs Furman football game. Any additional money will be donated to the chapter. They need furniture and other items for the house, so giving to this fund will not only create a fitting memorial to these brothers, but will allow all of us to leave a legacy to the Chapter. We know the chapter will appreciate any help we can provide.
