Linda's Life Saving Transportation

In June of this year, my dear friend Linda suffered a massive stroke in her home. She laid on her floor for an entire night before she was able to move to a phone and call for help. After spending 2 months in the hospital, she was able to return home, but is paralyzed and requires 24 hour care. Unable to see out of her left eye and she suffers from chronic dizziness and is unable to use her arm and legs and must rely on a wheelchair. While in the hospital, Linda recieved daily therapy and made some improvements. At home she has been instructed by her doctors to attend daily therapy sessions for occupational, physical and speech therapy but must rely on medical transportation services to take her to her appointments. Unfortunatley these services have been unreliable, many times never showing to pick her up, causing her to miss several important appointments. She had 3 different appointments at the Kresge Eye Institute to meet with specialists, unfortunatley she never made it to any of the appointments due to the medical transportation not picking her up and now the doctors will not make another appointment for her. We have seen improvements when she was attending therapy and he doctors and therapists agree that she can make tremendous improvements if she gets the necessary therapy. She has the motivation, determination and drive to do what is necessary. The problem is, getting her to her important therapy sessions. The medical transportation services that have been provided to her are not working out in getting her to her appointments. Several complaints and greivances have been made with nothing being done. Once they sent a taxi which she could not transfer in. Another time they sent a driver in a rickity beat up car and the driver was smoking cigarettes - and that is their idea of medical transport?? Her son has moved in with her to take care of her and can get her to the appointments if she has decent transportation. We are looking for any and all help in raising funds to be able to purchase a decent vechicle to get her to her important appointments. The doctors have said, the first 6 months is critcal in her improvement. She needs to be in consistent therapy to return to the Linda that we all know and love - a strong, independant woman. Every day that she misses therapy, is a step backwords and she must continue to move forward. I am concerned that she is becoming depressed because she is unable to get to her appointments. She has applied for disability but there is alot of red tape and no decision has been made yet. With no incoming money and unable to get the therapy she needs she is becoming more depressed I have seen the improvements she has already made and I am confident she can get back to being the strong woman and friend I have known for so many years. We would be so thankful for any help that can be given to get our dear Linda back on the road to recovery!
