2nd Lt. Lisa Bryant 30th Anniversary Memorial

Donation protected
Lisa Bryant was far from an exceptional young woman at the age of 21 when she graduated summa cum laude from Princeton University as a 2nd Lt. in the Army. Only a few short weeks after graduation and being assigned to Fort Bragg, North Carolina she was fatally shot on July 10, 1993 in a residence hall by an ROTC instructor who worked with her.

Lisa was voted most likely to succeed at James W. Robinson Jr. Secondary School, she was a cheerleader all 4 years including captain, she was the first and ONLY freshman to ever win the title of Miss Robinson in the school's history. She was editor of the student newspaper, founder and president of the Junior Civitans ( a community outreach organization at the HS) a member or student government, the Spanish Club and the Science Honor Society. Lisa was also the first African American female elected Governor of Girls State in Virginia. However, what people remember MOST about Lisa was the kind of person she was, not all of her accomplishments. She was kind, thoughtful, funny, caring, sweet, direct, and not afraid to be herself. She carried herself with a level of poise you rarely even see in the most experienced business leaders and she had that at 14 years old.

She followed in her father's footsteps and earned an Army ROTC scholarship to Princeton where she was an honor student, VP of her freshman class and earned the top grades in her ROTC class. She also excelled as a student leader and athlete by convincing the University President to bring back the cheerleading program and Lisa cheered all 4 years. She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and was elected to be her class alumni vice president before being murdered shortly thereafter.

Lisa was my friend, but I call her "Everyone's Friend". She impacted more people than she ever got the opportunity to know. Her life was cut short at the age of 21 and July 10th marks the 30th Anniversary of her death. A committee was formed to honor Lisa and her memory and to establish an endowed scholarship to benefit students in need in the Nothern Virgina area that are pursuing a degree in Sociology-the same degree as Lisa.

Lisa was a member of Jack and Jill of America, Inc., Northern Virginia Chapter ( many of her friends are still very active with the organization).

We have the FULL support of the entire Bryant family. Ret. Col. Wilbert Bryant his wife Emily and her older brother Wilbert Jr. (Will). We can not thank them enough.
