Help Paul Find Peace in His Fight

Donation protected
Meet Paul Schimanski.  I've had the pleasure of knowing Paul, his wife Kathy and his twin daughters Shannon and Kaitlyn for the past several years.

Paul is a great father, husband and friend to all who know him.   He also served 24 years in the Air Force. Quite simply, he's just a good guy.

Unfortunately, he's now battling cancer and needs help.

In December of 2012, at a routine colonoscopy, a tumor was found, which was later confirmed as cancerous.  The tumor was surgically removed a few weeks later.

Unfortunately, less than a year later,  the cancer returned and spread to the lungs and Paul was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon/rectal cancer

After two years of traditional chemo treatment, it was determined that this approach was not working, so now Paul is taking chemo pills six times a day.

Paul has used up all of his vacation days and sick days either for doctor’s appointments or just to recover from the tiring effects of the chemo pills.

Despite this, Paul continues to not let cancer define him.  If you met him for the first time, you'd never even know he was sick.  Though he battles nausea and fatigue,  he still goes to work each day at ABX Air, Inc., makes it to as many of his daughters' school and sporting events that he can, and always has a smile on his face.

While Paul has insurance, it's not enough to cover the considerable expenses that it takes to get the treatment he needs.   On top of costs of all of the insurance co-payments and over-the-counter meds,  he also has to go to the dentist four times a year for special cleaning due to the chemo pills.  The pills also mean his water bill has doubled.  He used to schedule acupuncture and massages to help manage the pain, but can’t do this anymore as it just became too costly in light of all of the other medical expenses that have piled up.

For anyone who has cared about someone battling cancer, you know that it takes a lot of physical, mental and spirtual toughness to make it through each day.  When you add worrying  about how to pay for your treatment and household expenses on top of all of that, it makes it even tougher.

Anything that you can donate, no matter how small (even $5 or $10) will have a direct, immediate and positive impact on Paul and his family.   It will allow him to buy the medication and treatment that he needs, while helping to ease the financial burden and worries that create even more stress in his life as he wages this battle.

As an incentive to get things rolling, I will match every dollar donated up to $1,000 total from now until November 1st.

If you've ever known or lost someone to cancer and felt helpless, this is a great opportunity to help someone else fight this terrible disease.

On behalf of Paul, Kathy, Shannon and Kaitlyn, thanks for your consideration.
