The man who smells of Huon Pine
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Robert Sweeny, and l’ve been a carpenter for 50 years, l work with rare Tasmanian timbers, specializing in Huon Pine. 3 years ago l began a 5-year plan to produce an organic shaped floating building, putting into practice the best of my skills and knowledge to produce a floating wooden masterpiece.
Two months ago l was feeling ill and saw my doctor, he ordered some tests (MRI) which lead to the detection of cancer of the liver, which is terminal and my time on this planet has been severely shorten, so time is precious.
My present condition has meant l’ve had to stop all commercial work which was been funding the project, my life expectance has been severely reduced so l’m unable to earn the money to continue the task.
Fortunately my wonderful and dedicated sons and grandsons are also amazing carpenters so with there loving help it will be feasable to launch this project onto
the Huon River, within my life. We seek and would greatly appreciate any financial assistance to make this dream a reality as soon as possible.
So far the building has consumed 10 tons of select and hand crafted ancient and rare Huon Pine. The structure is magnificent, finely detailed and beautifully hand crafted with finesse. This extraordinary project has captured the imagination of all who have seen it. It is truly one of the man made wonders of the Huon Valley and your donation will contribute to the launch of this uniquely Tasmanian creation, the first and only of it’s kind.
