Rachel Thompson wants to thank everyone who has shared and contributed to this go-fund me account. She has felt surrounded by generosity, love, and prayers which has given her hope during this sorrowful time of mourning Matthew. Thank you for honoring Matthew, his life, and his service for this country.
August 23, 2016 Matthew Thompson, 28, died of wounds received from an improvised explosive device while on patrol in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. SSG Thompson, Company A, 3rd Battalion, 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne) served as the Special Operations Combat Medic for his brothers on the team. He is survived by his wife Rachel, who is a local Washington artist, and his parents, Mark and Lynda, who reside in Wisconsin.
Rachel had found the one her soul loved in Matt. He had a sense of charisma to his presence, spoke fluent sarcasm and witty banter came easily.
His teammates' favorite quote:
"Hey, do you know how you get rid of something you dont want!? You put it in somebody's dump pouch when they are not looking..."
The spouses have pulled together in a new meaning of sisterhood to help support Rachel and family through our difficult time of despair. This accout has been set up to help support Matt's wife with unforseen finances as she navigates the next chapter of her life.
We appreciate all the love and support from our Special Forces family across the globe.
