This fund was created by Siulan Thomas, on behalf of her cousin, Alima Borel St. Clair. This fund was created to be able to help Tyreke's mother raise funds to have Tyreke's funeral in Trinidad, his native home.
"The mother of 17-year-old Tyreke Borel said through tears Monday that she’d cautioned her son to stay home for J’Ouvert, but the teen had insisted on joining the revelry where he was shot and killed.
"He was just a lovely child who wanted to enjoy the Labor Day. I told him to be safe. But he's 17. He didn't want to stay home,” said Alima St. Clair at her Flatbush apartment.
She said police told her Borel was sitting on a bench alone at Flatbush and Empire Blvd. around 3:45 a.m. when he was shot. Police believe he was not the intended target."
