Early Labor Day morning my brother David was stabbed to death near his home in the West Philadelphia neighborhood that our family has lived in for 5 generations. Our family, friends and community are devastated, shocked and deeply saddened at the sudden and tragic loss of dear David. Detectives are working diligently to find out who committed such a heinous act and we are praying that the responsible party will be brought to justice.
David was an endearing and loyal husband to his wife Wydia and a caring father to his two sons Brody and Brogden who admired him greatly. He worked in construction was incredibly optimistic about the life he was building for his wife and children. In addition to David's work, he was actively involved in his son's schooling and football team. David was well loved by everyone and known in the community for his big presence, always greeting others warmly and usually leaving people he interacted with something to think about. He was a free thinker and an avid conversationalist who loved to engage others in critical thinking around a range of issues such as: politics, social issues, and history. David was always generous with his time and resources. He was extremely loyal and forgiving to anyone he considered friends or family. He was known for saying "If you have family, you're rich" and he truly believed it.
Yesterday, our family met to discuss the heart wrenching details surrounding funeral services and ongoing support for Wydia and his children. Coming to the realization that we will have to go on without David and that his wife is now a widow and his children are fatherless has been the most difficult thing to accept but we are comforted by the love, kind words and condolences we have received from our friends and extended family. We created this campaign as a way for people to show love and support to his wife Wydia, parents Joe and Lorelle, siblings Jalana, Osai, Seku and myself (Malila) and other family by contributing to the cost of funeral services and other expenses associated with the loss.
If you are not able to contribute financially and would like to help in another way we encourage you to share this campaign link within your networks or donate in any way you feel comfortable.
Services will be held on Monday 9/12 /16 at 11:00am at Calvary United Methodist Church 801 South 48th street, 48th and Baltimore Avenue Philadelphia Pennsylvania.
We all loved David and he will be greatly missed.
