Hello everyone!
My name is Melanie, and I am fundraising money to study abroad this winter to Kenya, Africa with the UW-Milwaukee College of Nursing.
I am currently in my 4th year of College and studying to be a Registered Nurse. Becoming a Nurse has always been a dream of mine. Ever since I can remember I have always been fasinated with the human body and what I can do to help people who are sick or injured. It's important to me that they're are passionate, hardworking nurse's in the field impacting lives.
This January, I have the opportunity to travel to Kenya with other Nursing students to interact with health-care professionals in Africa. By traveling to Kenya, I will be exposed to referral hospitals, social service organizations and schools in Nairobi (capital city) and Mwingi (rural community).
Traveling abroad can open so many doors for me in my personal life and as a health-care professional. I believe that it is important to go and see how other people live and do things that are different than the way we may do things. I hope that by going to Kenya I will be able to share my knowledge about health-care and help other people along the way. I feel that my participation in this study abroad program will influence my future practices in the health-care field in that I would have seen how fortunate we are in the United States and expand my empathy toward others. This experience will also give me the opportunity to help others who have little access to health-care. I think that by participating in this program will be a life-changing and very humbling experience that I can use for years to come.
With all of this being said, the price comes in to factor.
The cost of the trip is $5,000 that includes flight, room and board, cost of the course and an african safari. Right now I am working towards this goal on my own by working, but I am a full time Nursing student, so I am unable to work very many hours. So I am graciously asking towards anyone who could help me achieve this dream. Every dollar helps and I would be eternally grateful for any sort of help you can provide.
I am so thankful for everyone who will support me on this incredible journey and hope you consider being apart of my story.
