DoubleUp for Soldotna Area Families in Need

Tax deductible
Kenai Local Food Connection is launching DoubleUp, a program to double the value of farmers market coupons that help feed families in need.

Where?  DoubleUp will serve families throughout the Central Kenai Peninsula, including Kenai, Soldotna, Nikiski, Sterling and Kasilof.

Who we are: Kenai Local Food Connection is a volunteer-run, grassroots group that celebrates and promotes local food.  In recent years, we have hosted Chef at the Market and Harvest Moon Local Food Festival. Given the uncertainties and economic hardship created by COVID-19, we have decided to focus our energies this year on an innovative program that will support local farmers and improve access to fresh, local food for those who need it most. We are partnering with Kenai Peninsula Food Bank to bring this opportunity to the community.

Why? There has been a dramatic increase in the number of local families needing food assistance due to the pandemic and resulting job losses. The Kenai Peninsula Food Bank reports that the number of individuals seeking help on a typical day has more than doubled since the pandemic hit. Farmers have also been hit hard by market uncertainties and new challenges to keeping workers and farmers markets safe.

You can help.  Help us to raise money for a fund that supports low-income families to purchase healthy and fresh, locally-grown food at Central Peninsula farmers markets. By doubling $30 in food coupons issued to income-qualified seniors as well as mothers and children enrolled in WIC (Women Infants & Children) by the Alaska Division of Health & Human Services, we will DoubleUp the healthy fresh vegetables, fruit, herbs and honey for the kids and elders who need them most.

Here is a little video that says it all: https://vimeo.com/98758522

By donating today, you will help to feed our Central Peninsula families and elders healthy fresh foods AND support local farm businesses. All funds raised through this GoFundMe campaign will go directly toward doubling the value of WIC and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program coupons.   You can also help spread the word by posting the link to this GoFundMe campaign on your Facebook timeline.  THANK YOU SO MUCH for your thoughtful caring.

Great news!  We have raised $7,500 of our overall goal of $10,000!!  Please help us reach this goal today!
