This world lost a hero. This larger-than-life war veteran tragically died this week due to the effects of PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder, defined as a mental health condition that’s triggered by a terrifying event) and chronic physical pain after bravely serving our country as a Special Operations Combat Medic for nearly 17 years. Matt completed one tour of duty in Iraq, three in Afghanistan, and multiple overseas peacekeeping and humanitarian missions. He loved the brothers and sisters in arms who he served with.
It wasn’t just when Matthew was in uniform that he cared for others, his behavior was second nature to him. He would frequently be the person to stop and help a stranded motorist on the side of the road. He was a giant of a man and friend to all. You only had to meet him once to love him.
He leaves behind his sweet wife and two children. These veterans and their families should be better taken care of and deserve more. Matt was receiving pay for his medical retirement, and his family will no longer receive a big portion of that pay. They have already sacrificed so much for our country and for each of us. Please give what you can and help his sweet little family. Help us take the financial burden off of his wife as she and her children try to pick up the pieces and go on without their husband and father. It’s a little thing that we can do to give back to this hero and his family. Thank you for your support.
