Sienna - One Step at a Time
Donation protected
I will be running in the 2016 Melbourne Half Marathon 21.1km on October 16th and I am hoping to raise much needed funds for the Sienna - One Step at a Time registered tax deductable Charity.
This October, I’m going to be sweating it out and doing my best to complete a gruelling course through the streets of Melbourne and ending back at the world famous 'G!
I am honoured to be a part of this amazing race and helping this great cause, and I’d really appreciate your support in this endeavour.
Sienna Cordell s a lovely 5 year old girl who is one of triplets, and part of a family of 7. Sienna has Cerebral Palsy. Late last year, Sienna underwent surgery, in an attempt to straighten her feet to help enable her to walk. This surgery was 100% successful, and the stiffness is now permanently removed.
Now that Sienna has had the surgery, and the stiffness is removed from her legs & feet, she has begun rehabilitation to teach her to walk. Firstly, as she has not used her legs much before, the leg muscles require extensive physiotherapy to develop and strengthen them. Secondly, as Sienna had not been upright unaided before, she has an underdeveloped sense of balance, and has exercises to help her develop her sense of balance and confidence in being upright.
Sienna is now working hard at her Physio and rehab to learn to walk. Ideally, Sienna requires Physio five times a week, but as this costs $195 per session, Sienna only has Physio once a week, with parent & sibling led physio for another 4 days a week. There is no funding available for post surgery physio. Sienna also does hydrotherapy once a week (which Sienna just loves!). Every 4 months, Sienna undergoes three weeks of intensive physio and rehab to reinforce and develop what she has learnt, but this comes at a cost. Sienna is booked into one 3 week session in November at a cost of $7400, and one in January at a cost of $9000. To maximise her potential, Sienna needs to get to as many of these sessions as possible. The cost of this physio is huge, and in order to help the family cover as much of this cost as possible, I am organising some fundraising.
Everyone who contributes to the fundraising for Sienna’s physio, both with support and donations, will help improve Sienna’s life immensely, and will help give her this chance at walking, just like her brother’s and sisters. You can all rest assured that the money will be well spent, and can take pride in the knowledge that you have all helped Sienna get a bit closer to achieving her goal of walking.
Thank you for your support and helping to make a difference.
