Derek Moten Funeral Fund

Donation protected
On Friday, Dec 29, 2017, we lost our friend, Derek Moten.

Derek was an amazing man, who touched the heart of every person he came into contact with.

He lived his life happy.  Always smiling, and always making others smile and laugh, no matter the situation.  Even in harder times, he found the will and the strength to smile through it.

He loved music, and spent quite a few years working at a small record store in the NYC's East Village, Norman's Sound and Vision.  Every work colleague and customer at Norman's felt Derek's passion for music, and enjoyed his character.

He also loved movies, and spent much of his time watching films.  He loved the cinema, the stories told, and the visuals on the screen.

He loved it more than anything else, save his daughter, Laila, his life and soul, whom he loved very much. Laila is 14, and was fortunate enough to spend a lot of time with her father, who loved her more than imaginable. Derek was as loving and proud a father as any man could be.  He lived to see the smile on her face, every day.  Myself and some friends have promised each other to dedicate ourselves to helping Laila grow into the woman he father envisioned, from here on.

Derek will be sorely missed.  He touched endless lives with laughter and smiles.  He made everyone he came into contact with a better person for knowing him.

He was a father, a son, a brother, and a friend.  He will be sorely missed.  No one was prepared for his passing, and the funds we are raising will go towards services and other arrangements for Derek.

It is a difficult time for the family, and I am taking care of raising the funds so they can take care of the other important details, as well as dealing emotinally with the loss of their loved one.  As soon as we have raised what we need, I will be passing it on to a family member so they can take care of all the financial issues, and get on to dealing with Derek's passing and celebration of his life.

Please help us in reaching our goal so we can put Derek to rest.

This fund is going directly to her to help pay funeral costs and other financial challenges Derek's family may still face. We are looking to raise $3000.  The additional $100 will go towards fees that GoFundMe will charge when we reach our goal.  We know there are a lot of his friends around the country that knew him well and loved him like a brother that can’t make the memorial, but would like to contribute.

Should we exceed our goal, all extra monies will go towards the fmaily to help take care of his daughter, Laila.

Thank you in advance for your generosity, and your condolences, thoughts, and well wishes.
