Matthew Johnson Fights Cancer

My name is Matthew Johnson and I am 12 years old. I have Osteosarcoma. I was hurrying to class one day at school and I fell. It was a really bad bruise. My mom took me to the doctor because it wasn't getting better and I was still limping after a week. My doctor thought I had a chipped knee cap so she sent me for an x-ray. They told my mom it would be a few days before we got the results but they called before we got home to tell us we were being referred to the Cancer Center for an MRI.
I had an MRI a few days later and they immediately referred us to the Children's Cancer Center at UNC-Chapel Hill where they confirmed what the pediatrician suspected as Osteosarcoma which is bone cancer.
I have a 9 month treatment plan, where I go to UNC Chapel Hill Children's Cancer Center from Monday's to usually Thursday weekly, unless there are complications, then I sometimes stay longer. I have been through 4 months of chemo already, and now I will be having surgery to remove the tumor from my leg on September 19, 2016. They will also be placing a prosthetic piece in my leg to repair the bone I have lost due to the cancer. After that, I am facing more weekly chemo and months of physical therapy.
I really miss my friends at Pine Forest Middle School. I have been out of school since last April and will miss almost all of 7th grade, if I am able to go back this year at all. I am keeping a positive attitude about my treatment and I know God will continue to bless me, so that one day I will be able to share my story with others!
From Paula and Ronnie's friends:
Because of all the time spent at the Children's Cancer Center, Paula Johnson, has been on Family Medical Leave so that she can be with Matthew continuously, as she should be.
Paula and Ronnie Johnson are wonderful parents to Matthew. Obviously, their only concern is curing their child. Because of this, this page was developed. The loss of one income, mounting hospital bills, and the costs of travel are bound to be a huge stress on them. If you can find it in your hearts and wallets, please try to donate to them. If you cannot donate, please take the time to pray for Matthew and his parents for the strength needed to pull through this, and for the courage that Matthew has shown to continue!
Please help spread the word, and share on your Facebook and anywhere else you think may help get this word out.
Your help and generosity are greatly appreciated!
