Hello! You may not know us, but if you are reading this, you may know our sister Beth, her husband Charlie and their son, our nephew Clayton. The Conklin Family is well-known in the Indee area as life-long and respected members of the community. In fact, you may have been recipients of the Conklin's help, hospitality, assistance and support in one form or another over the years. As a former fire fighter and school employee, Charlie and Beth have served the Indpedence community for decades. Well, now it's their turn. It's been a rough couple of years for the Beth and Charlie as they have been through two serious accidents with Charles and have experinced the loss of work , in additon to the loss of their fathers (Chuck and Mike) and our mother Judy. Most recently, their youngest, Clayton has been diagnosed with cancer. He underwent emergency surgery to remove the cancer but must now go through two rounds of chemotherapy to ensure the cancer is out of his system for good! He will be receiving treatment in CR for the next two months. The chemotherapy will make him very ill and he will lose his hair. It's been a very emotional and stressful time for the entire family. As you can imagine, their lives have been tossed upside down. Despite all of their hardships, they have remained strong, steadfast and resilient. Never have they asked for help nor have they given up hope for better times ahead. However, as you can imagine, the financial strain on their family has been tremendous. What insurance doesn't cover, they are responsible for out-of-pocket expenses which continue to rise. They will be making frequent trips back and forth to the Cedar Rapids and all of the extra costs to keep Clayton "healthy" through his treatment, it's going to be a tough, tough road ahead. Please join me in helping Beth, Charlie and Clayton. They are the first ones to help others out, now we can do the same for them. They do not know this GoFundMe page exists. However, what I hope is that when they find out, they will recognize that they are surrounded by the support of their community, friends and family, near and far. It would mean more than you could imagine! If you have it in your hearts to donate, we thank you. If you are unable to provide a monetary donation, we know that a hug, a helping hand and listening ear would do them a world of good right now. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
