Shari's Medical Fund

To all of our friends, Shari Gibson Herceg is in need. Shari is a wonderful wife, friend and mentor.  She is a recent survivor of squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (4 years ago and in remission!)  However, after facing everything that cancer gave her she has encountered another setback.  In May she started having pains and numbing in her legs when she would walk. She went to the doctor and found out that her aorta was blocked 90%, which was cutting the blood flow off to both of her legs. She was sent in for emergency surgery at the end of May. They did what was called an "Aorta Bypass," removing all of her organs in order to get to the largest artery (located in the stomach).  Unfortunately, it didn't work so she had another surgery to put an artificial vein in from the collar bone and into both groins to restore blood flow into her legs.

         After 4 more surgeries nothing had improved. The only option of living was to take her left leg from above the knee. We are still hoping to save her right leg. Shari has had a total of 7 surgeries since May and the bills are piling up.  The everyday bills, the prescriptions and medical equipment are all out of pocket (as they have exceeded her health insurance premium) and are through the roof. Shari is currently 76 lbs, and needs a home health nurse twice a week and a physical therapist as well.  The transport to and from the Doctor in Charleston (from Myrtle Beach -130 miles) is very costly.  Her devoted husband has had to take off of work for 6 weeks in totality in order to care for her and friends help out with daily tasks like laundry, dishes, cleaning and the animals.  She also had to trade in her paid off car and get a new vehicle because she is unable to drive a stick shift anymore, which has caused an unnecessary car payment. We are currently building a ramp to try to make the house more assessable so she can start to have a normal life again. 

        For those of you who know Shari, you know that she is full of life!  She is always cracking jokes, smiling and caring for those around her. She would give the shirt off her back to help anyone around her. We are asking for anything, just a $1.00 from anyone to help.  We are so very grateful that Shari is alive and helping her would be a blessing. Thank you and please keep her in your prayers.
