We are a non-profit organisation working with women from Direct Provision. We believe that empowerment of women by our local community provides the best outcomes.
Comprising of local women and women living in Direct Provision in Cork, BetterTogether Social Group is a grass roots group that meets weekly. We aim to provide a safe and secure space for women living in Direct Provision to link them with their local community.
The group is focused on the needs and wants of the women in Direct Provision who co-develop the program through regular consultation. Within the program,
Warm up activities, such as yoga, are often followed by recreational or skills building activities.
The aim of these weekly session is to provide a chance for these women to have a break from the stresses of daily life in Direct Provision, learning new skills and having new experiences in a supportive safe environment.
Regular engagement in the local community, such as organised outings, ensures that these women get to experience first hand, the beauty of Cork and familiarise themselves with their new home.
Providing a safe secure space for women, outside of the Direct Provision accommodation is a priority for this group. The use of Cork city's Himalayan Yoga Centre provides a perfect opportunity to engage in Cork's wider community. This space is generously donated to BetterTogether by the organisation.
