SUPPORT: Canoe Journey of Ḵéex̱’ Yaakw’ Ḵwáan
Donation protected
We are so excited for this culturally powerful event!! This pandemic has been long and hard, keeping us all apart and unable to practice our cultural ceremonies together. We finally get to come together! And we need your help!
In a few days yaakw’ (canoe) pullers from Ḵeéx̱' Ḵwáan (The People of Kake), a Lingít village in the heart of Southeast Alaska, and friends and family of Ḵéex̱ from different villages and backgrounds will join together to pull our two yaakw’ from our village of Ḵéex̱' to Juneau, Alaska witho a stop in Angoon, Alaska for onshore cultural protocols and to bear witness to the raising of a Daklaweidi totem pole, an honor we are humbled by. The pull will take us approximately 8 days. We pull each day for as long as we can and camp every night on shore.
We need your help to raise the funds to support approximately 25 pullers, our safety boat and crew, a cook and cooks helper, in order to make this historic pull happen!
We are grateful to the Organized Village of Kake for purchasing a new yaakw’ for us to respectfully use and to Kake Tribal Corporation for allowing us to once again use our now Elder Yaakw’. We also thank the One People Canoe Society and SEARHC for supporting our pull.
Now we need funds to cover the costs of the pull:
5600 Safety Boat, Crew, and Fuel
4000 Food, water, medical supplies
_____
9,600 TOTAL
Pullers are responsible for providing their personal gear, camping gear, pulling equipment like life vests, cushions, and sports tape etc, and other personal hygiene and special dietary needs. They will also contribute by sharing Native foods for the cooks to utilize. We will also hold another fundraiser for some great items some were able to procure from awesome artists and community supporters!
Aatlein Gunalchéesh, Ja Háw’aa, Thank you so very much for your support of this incredible, powerful, hard, and spiritual reconnection to our Homelands, our Ancestors, and Ourselves. Without you, it would not be possible!
*Please note the spelling of our village and canoe family as I’ve been taught is Ḵéex̱’ Yaakw’ Ḵwáan ❤️❤️. If it needs fixing please let me know❤️❤️❤️
