Fulfilling A Promise

In July of 2014, I was called upon and went to serve in a mission with Elevation Church. Our team left to Lusaka, Zambia, Africa where we spent our time at the Breath of Heaven’s Children’s Ministry orphanage. There I was greeted by so many wonderful children, all who are orphans. During my time there we traveled to the surrounding compounds and delivered supplies and prayer. While at the orphanage I got to see how the kids loved to play soccer. Every day kids from the orphanage and kids from the surrounding area would get together and play soccer. They played on a dirt field with two metal goal post with no net. Most of the kids would play without shoes or any safety equipment. I noticed that the kids clothing were torn and dirty and the soccer balls that they used were in poor condition. I spoke with their coach, who is the grounds keeper for the orphanage, and he told me how much these kids loved to play soccer. He also explained to me how soccer is there escape from dealing with their current situation. The coach also told me how the group of kids have formed a team and have competed against other teams throughout Zambia; however, many times the kids were not allowed to play in local tournaments because of the lack of having proper safety gear.
Being a personal trainer I decided to coach the kids during the time I was with there. Every afternoon we ran soccer drills and conditioning drills. These kids amazed me. They had such great heart and were so grateful for everything I was showing them. Despite their hard work, and the constant adjustments being made, it was apparent that these kids needed safety equipment. The kids sat and talked with me and told me how bad they needed cleats to play in. All the kids expressed how happy they would be if their team could play in the local tournaments. I promised the kids that I would return back with all the equipment they needed to play in tournaments.
Before I left I decided to sponsor five children. Through the past couple of years I have received several letters from my kids asking for my return. Well the time has come for me to return back to the kids. I am scheduled to return back to the orphanage in July 2017. It is my goal now to fulfill my promise to the team by returning back with new soccer equipment. This is something I can’t do on my own. Holding my faith in how good God is and how he always provides; I now reach out to all of you in helping me raise the necessary money that is needed in purchasing the soccer equipment and the travel expenses in traveling back to the orphanage.
Please take the time to watch this video to get an understanding of the orphanage that I have been working with.
