Hi everyone!
First of all, thank you for taking the time to read this. I know your days are full and busy, so it means a lot.
For those of you who don't know, my name is Taryn. I have a wonderful husband, a sweet little girl, and we are currently expecting baby #2. We recently moved from California to North Carolina, and when we moved, I lost my health insurance. I was able to get Medicaid when I found out about this pregnancy, but the only place that accepts Medicaid is the county health department and the hospital they associate with.
I did some research. I read just about every review I could find on these places--and just about every one of them was horrible. Review upon review about rude nurses who act like you're wasting their time and don't come to your room when you call them. Reviews about patients who were given the wrong medicine, which could have been extremely harmful had they taken it! Reviews about patients who were improperly treated for serious conditions and then sent home (with a couple of cases resulting in the patient dying within a few days). So scary.
These reviews, along with other things I've heard, are so terrifying to me. Just the thought of having to go there terrifies me.
So...I researched my other options and found a great birthing center close-by. Yay! Unfortunately, they do not take Medicaid. Sad. But they do allow self pay and we have already put down a deposit. The cost is reasonable for the services you receive, but it's still a lot for us to take on alone.
The birthing center promotes all natural births. They encourage movement during labor and allow you to make the experience into what you want it to be. It's really a fantastic place! There is a link below to their website if you are interested in learning more about it!
