Spina Bifida Surgery
Donation protected
I am currently 22 weeks pregnant and unfortunately I have not had such an easy pregnancy. I did normal blood work to check if Rowan had spina bifida expecting everything to be normal. Well that following Friday I got the results back for the blood work marking me positive for it. During a following ultrasound they found what may have been the spina bifida but sent me to talk to my OBGYN who directed me to a specialist. During that specialist visit it was confirmed that Rowan has Open Spina Bifida starting at the believe to be S1-S5 possibly a little higher. As of right now he’s showing full movements of his legs which means he has little to no nerve damage. He’s also showing type two Arnold Chairi which means that because his spine is exposed it’s pulling on his brain and causing extra fluid in his brain. As for Rowan the option that me and my husband are trying to go for is to have surgery while he is still in utero to repair his spine and possibly correct the effects of his Arnold Chairi to where it’s as if he never had that at all. It would also give him a greater chance at having little to nothing wrong with him. With this surgery I would have to have it before I turn 26 weeks and I would have to have the surgery in Houston. If I am able to do this surgery I plan to proceed with it to give my sweet Rowan the best chance I can give him regardless of the risk to me. With the surgery there is a less invasive one that I am going to be doing and I will be more likely to carry full term and will be able to come back to the coast where I would deliver at the New Orleans hospital. This surgery would also render me unable to work for an extended amount of time causing bills to stack up. I’d have to be in Houston by the 20th of September for doctors appointments with the doctors there to confirm that I can do the surgery and then estimated surgery date would be the 28th of September. Afterwards I would then be bed rested and no longer able to work until I were to give birth to Rowan. As of right now Aaron and I are trying to prepare ourselves the best we can for the possibility of this surgery. It’s been tough the past two weeks and it may continue to be tough but we are trying our best.
Anything donated would be greatly appreciated. It would essentially help with funds to go to Houston and be able to come back as well as my stay there. It would help with bills that will stack up from me being out of work. It would also help with the medical bills if insurance doesn’t cover all of the medical bills. Thank you all♥️
