Spiritual Care to Homebound Elderly

I am a nurse and minister, founder of  Heart of Servce Minstries, a Christian nonprofit ministry. I have spent most of my life caring for older adults and teaching others to do the same. This new program will be the first official one for our ministry.  The goal is to raise first year funding of $168,000. The program is slated to begin january 2017. Our mission is to provide spiritual in-home service for older adults who are church members, but  who are now homebound.  They are incapacitated physically, many even suffer with chronic mental issues such as dementia, rendering them
unable to attend church.

Many of these older adults have spent the majority of their adult life serving as pastors, lay ministers, Sunday School teachers, ushers, deacons, choir members, and other roles to bless God's people.

 Now that they are unable to attend weekly services and other programs they had grown to love, there is a void in their lives. Many feel forgotten and lonely.
 It is a passionate desire of mine to help them continue to enjoy some fulfillment and have meaning in life. Nothing  we provide can repay them for the years of selfless service; but this program will show them some appreciation for their heartfelt contributions.

The workers visit once each week to pray, read the Bible and other spiritual literature with them. They will also engage them in singing and devotions, listening to music, and pleasant conversation.

I am committed to ensuring that visiting staff will be well-trained, meet with family approval, compassionate,  and dedicated to the mission of the service being provided. Please join me in helping to fill this gap in human service. This initial phase will begin in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area.

The funds that you donate will be used to pay spiritual care workers, and buy supplies (which will include recordings of their preferred music). Individualized programs will be developed based upon the preferences and history of the adult. Some materials will be left in the home for use as they desire.
